Ritual or payment, especially to an idol or pagan god.

Gield is a setting in the far north and is made up of humans living and ruling a the pleasure of the 4 deities:

• Ramir - The deity of Might.
• Uvtris - The deity of Agility.
• Amdia - The deity of Wit.
• Baeya - The deity of Charm.

The devout can call upon these deities in critical moments for divine intervention, but this favor must be earned by performing a Gield. Over time, divine assistance wanes, requiring the devout to perform another Gield. Failure to perform the Gield leads to a loss of divine assistance.

Clans are the social construct of Gield. Each character belongs to a clan, however, they may also be in a blood feud with another clan. Encountering a feuding clan member will likely result in an altercation, but rarely lethal.

Faerie live among the people, but not in a friendly way. There's a wide variety of faerie in the world and they normally keep to themselves, but it is not uncommon for adventurers happen upon them. They're also known to defend their territory when there are trespassers.

The land of Gield was once populated by another race known as the Ancients. There are few remnants of the ancients dotting the landscape of Gield. Mysterious runes, artifacts, and trinkets are discovered from time to time. Some are said to hold untold riches.

What Is this?

Gield is a norse setting and rules for low magic adventure gaming with Heroic Tales. Heroic Tales is a rules-lite TTRPG which uses an innovative d6 dice pool based on skills. It's very easy to learn and play. You'll need a copy of Heroic Tales to adventure in Gield.

The setting section is system neutral, so you may use it with any system you choose.

What Does It Contain?

This setting contains a rich description of the world including the gods, clans, climate, land, sea, faerie, and ancients. There's also a map of a subsection of an archipelago in Gield which includes towns, descriptions, key NPCs and adventure hooks.
